There are three methods to a robust Six Sigma program; Process Management, Six Sigma Improvement and Design for Six Sigma. We will understand them, distinguish the three from each other and explore in some detail the five steps of DFSS which are called DMADV. We will deal with the acronyms and jargon and understand the roadmap for effectiveness and how to successfully deploy. Within each step we will touch the more popular and often used tools.

Applying DFSS Tools Across the Entire Spectrum - From Capturing the Voice of the Customer through Design Optimization
The objective in Design for Six Sigma is to create a product or service that meets its customers' needs, but these needs are typically not met when variation in parts, process, or user environments occurs. Therefore it becomes critical to predict and reduce the impact of this variation early in the development process, well before hardware is built. In this workshop we will begin with establishing true customer needs and requirements and demonstrating how they can be modelled mathematically. We will then illustrate how to develop an optimized design that satisfies all of the stakeholders' needs. Identifying and flowing down requirements, allocation of tolerances, analysis of performance based on statistical capabilities, optimization of multiple dimensions of the design, and the methods to get quantitative results will be explored.

As a Master Black Belt at General Electric he guided an engineering organization in the daily application and implementation of DFSS and Six Sigma. For SDI, Jesse leads the development of our DFSS software tools.

Testing High Level and Detailed Transactional Process Designs
This workshop focuses on different methods for predicting the performance of newly designed processes prior to a field test or pilot to make sure that their performance meets customer needs. The philosophy of DFSS is to do it right the first time, and without this predictive testing, we have no sense of how the processes are going to perform before they are rolled out. If we wait until the pilot to test the processes, we may be too late to correct some critical aspect of the design that we have missed. Systematic predictive testing is therefore an important DFSS step, but one that is not often done adequately by process design teams.
To ensure the overall quality of the design, testing needs to take place at various levels of detail. At the highest level, we have the CTQ requirements generated from the Voice of the Customer. These requirements are “flowed down” to the element (process steps, technology, organizations etc.) level where the actual task of design takes place. Testing needs to take place at the element level to make sure that each element performs as expected. In addition, when all elements are complete, the elements need to be assembled and tested to make sure that the capability of the elements “flows up” to meet the CTQ requirements of the overall design. The workshop will describe the methods and tools appropriate to test each level of the design. Key topics to be covered include:
• Flow-down and flow-up concepts
• Testing design elements using Crystal Ball
• Using FMEA as a design test tool
• Testing the overall design using process simulation
• Predicting the Sigma Level of a design using scorecards
Workshop Leader: Rohit Ramaswamy, Ph.D, Consulting Affiliate, Oriel Inc. Rohit is the author of the book “Design and Management of Service Processes”, and has worked in the Six Sigma and Quality field for 15 years. He has developed and taught Six Sigma programs and trained and certified Master Black Belts in a variety of industries including Financial Services, Telecommunications and Transportation. Fundamentals and Value of Critical Parameter Management in Product Development
Critical Parameter Management (CPM), a.k.a. CTQ Flow Down/Up, ties all the discrete DFSS projects together and enables the next level of DFSS implementation, that is, at the product development program level. This interactive workshop will explore the details and practical application of CPM within DFSS:
• Defining the Value Statement for Implementing CPM
• How CPM serves as a template to enable the DFSS Process
• New product development process gate deliverable via CPM
• Nested Houses of Quality within CPM to develop the relationships
• Management and trace ability of the product performance interactions
• The role of CPM in traditional Systems Engineering
• Critical Parameter capability flow-up via Transfer Functions
• A premier by-product of CPM; DFSS Scorecards
There will be an optional hands-on exercise of exploring the details of CPM as well as developing a CPM tree, including transfer functions using the Six Sigma Cockpit® software solution for CPM by Cognition Corporation. Attendees are requested to bring their laptops for this exercise, in which they will receive a free, 45-day evaluation copy of the software.

Cancellation

• You can send a substitute colleague in your place
• You will be charged a Service Charge fee dependent on the following cancellation time frames before the event.
a) If you cancel prior to 30 working days before the event, you will be charged a Service Charge Fee of 20% of the registration fee.
b) If you cancel less than 30 working days, but prior to 10 working days before the event, you will be charged a Service Charge Fee of 50% of the registration fee.
If you have already paid, the appropriate deduction will be made, and the balance refunded. If you have not already paid, an immediate payment of the Service Charge Fee would be required.
