  • 15:30 TRACK N: Optimizing supply chain processes using Lean/Six-Sigma
  • Lean/Six-Sigma methodology and tools are very effective in maturing process performance, especially supply chain processes which are highly complex and have a fundamental effect on financial performance and operational effectiveness. This presentation presents a distilled set of methodologies that have been used to reengineer supply chain processes. Case studies and exhibits illustrating the methodologies are also discussed in detail.
Judicious selection of either Lean or Six-Sigma methodologies is an important first step. Both methodologies are complimentary and guidelines to select the right approach are discussed in detail. Focus on analytics and numerical analysis of transactional data – to unlock valuable information is the next logical step. Using the newly available information to achieve quick hits in operating strategies and policy enables an organization to justify longer term initiatives. Finally, deploying the right technology solution and process measurement solutions ensure that the changes “stick” – resulting in a repeatable process within a solid compliance framework.
This presentation emphasizes a structured and phased implementation methodology. The speed of implementation is a critical parameter for achieving success – the organization’s capability to manage and absorb change is a key driver to determine the timelines and approach. This presentation presents a holistic approach, based on people-process-technology dimensions, to conceptualize and implement changes in supply chain processes.

Using Innovation to accelerate your Lean Six Sigma Deployment
Corporations around the world attest to the benefits of Lean Six Sigma strategies for process improvement, cost reduction, and streamlined processes. However, the majority of these implementations are focused on cost cutting and expense reduction- while sustaining and promoting growth is number one agenda for most C level executives.
Historically, less than 10% of corporations have sustained growth that generates above-average shareholder returns consistently for more than a few years. Therefore, the management of Innovation has generated a sense of riskiness and unpredictability for managers responsible for delivering shareholder value and results.
In this workshop, you will examine the causes for this unpredictability and randomness through careful examination of forward-thinking companies that have established Innovation as a key principle for growth and competitive advantage.
You will explore the key themes and principles embraced by highly innovative companies that have reengineered their Innovation process:
    • Simultaneously designing and implementing an enterprise-wide strategy for cost reduction, revenue growth and productivity improvement through a total performance excellence model that embraces Six Sigma, Lean, Design and Innovation
    • Developing your own internal capability and systems for total performance excellence by “insourcing” Innovation
    • Making organic growth more consistent, predictable and integrated with other aspects of performance improvement

Program Revitalization - The Next Evolution of Your Lean and Six Sigma Program
Process excellence programs are the most challenging and rewarding initiatives that most companies will face. Building a program that gets results is one thing, building a program that is self sustaining is yet another; the challenge for those companies who have been successful with Lean and Six Sigma methodologies is to build a program that is constantly innovating itself and the business while being flexible to change.
This workshop will be taking a close look at:
    • The factors that cause a program to stagnate
    • Effective ways to get programs back on track and growing again
WORKSHOP LEADER: Debby Sollenberger, Vice President of Business Development, SIGMA BREAKTHROUGH TECHNOLOGIES, INC. is a master of the Six Sigma methodology with top ability to apply the tools and techniques to any process to yield direct productivity and digitization. ebby was certified as a Master Black Belt at GE Aircraft Engines and executed 10 projects delivering $7 Million of direct, bottom line financial impact.

    FAST LEAN
The number one reason cited by Leadership for dropping their Continuous Process Improvement effort is insufficient return on investment or lacklustre results.
In this workshop, participants will gain an understanding of a Lean Deployment Model adopted by the 50,000 person, $23 billion a year Naval Sea Systems Command. Following the model NAVSEA rolled Lean Six Sigma implementation efforts out to over 30 locations in 2004/05 that yielded tangible savings of more than $200 million on over 500 improvement activities. The model can be adopted by organizations of any size to accelerate financial, operating, and cultural benefits of their program and thereby increase long term success of their CPI effort.
Participants will gain an understanding of:
    • How to apply the Lean Deployment Model within their organization to determine the number of value streams to engage
    • How many teams to charter per year
    • The infrastructure required to support that level of change
    • How much Sensei support is truly necessary
    • The minimum net return on investment their efforts should yield
More importantly a set of conditions based exit criteria for the Sensei will be proposed so that participants can determine the appropriate point to terminate the services of their outside consultant, and how to use the model to mathematically calculate when those conditions will be achieved.
WORKSHOP LEADER: Mike Wall, President, BETTER ENTERPRISE SOLUTIONS CORP. During his 20 year career with the Boeing Company Mike Wall led the implementation of Quality Circles, Total Quality, World Class Manufacturing, and Lean / Just-in-Time efforts at the Wichita Division. Think Strategic or Die - Where is Your Six Sigma Program Going?
According to recent research, a third of all Six Sigma initiatives fail to produce results and are abandoned, one third will produce mediocre results and only one third are successful. What is the difference? In the successful third, the Six Sigma program becomes the vehicle for executing strategy, the engine of profitable growth and the thing CEOs trumpet to their shareholders. In the other two-thirds, it is marginalized and forgotten.
This workshop will share the secrets of the successful third:
    • How did they start their program?
    • How did they develop a sustainable infrastructure?
    • How did they ensure their improvement programs made an impact on their strategic objectives?
    • How did they keep their senior executives enthused and informed as the program developed?
WORKSHOP LEADER: Steven DuBrow, President and Managing Director of the Americas Region, I-NEXUS, the leading provider of enterprise software to enable strategy execution. Steve has worked extensively in helping organizations link strategic vision with tactical execution. Applying Six Sigma to Six Sigma" to Improve Deployment ROI
Regardless of the size of the organization, when a Six Sigma program reaches a certain maturity it runs the risk of losing momentum. Once the low hanging fruit has been exhaused, subsequent projects typically nerate less financial benefit, new projects become harder to identify and validating and aggregating program data becomes a nuisance. If not addressed, this pattern can deplete Six Sigma ROI and enthusiasm.
One way to break free of this cycle is by applying the rigorous, data-driven approaches of Six Sigma to the operations of your deployment. It begins with a simple realization: the practice of running Six Sigma is itself made up of processes that can be analyzed, refined and optimized.
Join us for an insightful, informative and entertaining examination of innovative ways to inject project-focused analysis and discipline into your Six Sigma deployment to accelerate your organization's results.
Find out how to inspire your team to drive new thinking, improve efficiency and increase the bottom line by:
    • Applying rigorous, data-driven analysis to your Six Sigma deployment processes
    • Identifying the relationship between project value and project cycle time
    • Improving project selection using scoring and prioritization techniques
    • Increasing Black Belt productivity to reduce down timeand adapting to change

The Six Sigma Maturity Model and the Strategy Capability Ladder
Using the Six Sigma Maturity Model as Your Guide on the Six Sigma Journey
The Six Sigma Maturity Model defines the commonly experienced stages of Six Sigma maturity. Roxanne O’Brasky, President and Founder of ISSSP called the new model “the first rigorous attempt to describe the Six Sigma journey from launch and early success to culture transformation.” This model has tremendous practical value for organizations that want to:
    • benchmark their progress against industry norms
    • assess implementation strengths and performance gaps
    • anticipate common adoption pitfalls
    • effectively communicate progress and garner additional support for the Six Sigma initiative across the enterprise.
Find out why all of the Six Sigma community luminaries are talking about the Six Sigma Maturity Model. This workshop will walk participants through this recently published and highly acclaimed model and explains how it can be used as a compass for companies that want to take their operational performance to the next level.

    8.30-11.15 : April 27th 2007: Workshop J
Setting Priorities and Quantifying the Revenue Payoff of Your Quality Initiatives to Get CFO/CMO Buy in
Most Chief Marketing and Finance Officers (CMOs and CFOs) view Six Sigma as an interesting quality and cost cutting tool but something that doesn¡¦t provide any direct benefit to the top line. This is because they fail to understand how to quantify the revenue, word of mouth, sales support and risk reduction benefits of better service and quality. They also find the many sources of customer feedback contradictory and confusing, further eroding their support for using the Voice of the Customer.
This session will show how to get CFO and CMO buy-in to quantifying the top line impacts by drawing upon many different data sources and integrating them into a unified Voice of the Customer based on best practices. The data can then be used to develop a conservative estimate of revenue and word of mouth impact which is often ten-twenty times the cost-saving impact. Using revenue payoff often dramatically changes priorities for lean six sigma project selection.
Mr. Goodman will describe TARP's basic research on the impact of quality problems on loyalty, revenue and word of mouth and then, using examples from financial services, direct mail, retail, manufacturing B2B and health care, he will then show how the analysis of damage to loyalty and word of mouth by type of problem can be used to quantify the revenue implications of better service and quality in a conservative manner that even CFO's will accept.
WORKSHOP LEADER: John Goodman, President, TARP, a research and consulting organization that specializes in customer service and quality improvement. John has managed more than 600 separate customer service studies, including TARP's White House sponsored evaluation of complaint handling practices in government and business; studies quantifying word-of-mouth, and the bottom-line impact of consumer education as well as five benchmark studies of the use of toll-free service numbers by major corporations. He has taught courses on quality measurement and improvement for Wharton Business School and ASQ.

    8.30-11.15 : April 27th 2007: Workshop K
Maximize Your Project Selection in a Transactional World Using Value Stream Mapping
The project selection process is one of the most critical steps in meeting your organization's strategic goals. Value Stream Mapping can help optimize this selection process. This workshop demonstrates the power of using Value Stream Mapping (VSM) across all continuous improvement methodologies, not just Lean or Six Sigma. By successfully documenting the current state and providing a vision of the ideal state, CEO's and Executive Council members can quickly recognize the potential scope and value of a transitional process project. The kaizen bursts on the Future State Map give tremendous insight into the Lean and/or Six Sigma tools that will be required to successfully improve the process.
Blending lecture with case studies and roundtable discussion, this workshop brings the theoretical concepts of VSM in a transactional process into the real world.
The following transactional VSM concepts will be covered in this session:
    • Drawing the Current State Map for indeterminate on-demand processes
    • Enrolling employees within a Value Stream that the map presented is a fair representation of the process in which they work
    • Using the concept of Availability in transactional VSM
    • Dealing with multi-tasking employees concerns
    • Determining if the project is a Lean or Six Sigma project or meets other critical project criteria
Properly launching a project with the correct focus and tools can determine the difference between success and failure. All too often a Six Sigma team spends six months working on a project that could have been finished in five days using Lean tools, or a Lean project fails because the problem that was encountered was due to complex defects or variation, not waste, requiring Six Sigma tools.
WORKSHOP LEADER: Mark A. Nash, Managing Director, ARGENT GLOBAL SERVICES, a process engineering firm specializing in engineered standards programs, industrial engineering-based cost reduction programs, Lean training and implementation, and Six Sigma training and implementation conducted in partnership with Pinnacle Partners, Inc. Mark has spent nearly 25 years assisting organizations worldwide in process improvement, and is a co-author of the new book, Using Lean for Faster Six Sigma Results with Sheila R. Poling from PINNACLE PARTNERS, INC. who is his co-presenter for this session.

Lean Six Sigma has long been the purview of big manufacturing, large-scale operations, and high volume transactions, but how does it apply to Sales & Marketing?
    • Is it possible to leverage the advantages of Lean Six Sigma's velocity, efficiency, predictability without compromising the creativity and relationship elements which are fundamental to Sales and Marketing?
    • Is it possible to leverage the investments in Lean Six Sigma to achieve performance improvements in Sales & Marketing, similar to those achieved in the past in manufacturing and operations?
The answer to these questions is YES, and this workshop will focus on how.
Whether you are a CEO seeking greater measurement, predictability, and assurance that sales and marketing investments are driving the top-line of your business; a VP of Sales & Marketing seeking to defend your budgets and increase confidence in the customer-side decisions you're making; or a Lean Six Sigma leader in your organization trying to find ways to extend best practices into the Sales and Marketing area of your company, this session is for you.
    This workshop will:
    • Translate Lean Six Sigma terminology into sales and marketing terms;
    • Demonstrate the linkages of Lean Six Sigma in Sales and Marketing to the roots of good Strategic Account Management, Channel Management, and Direct Marketing ¡V revealing Lean Six Sigma as a continuation of the direction of best practices within the profession as opposed to a dramatic departure;
    • Link the application of Lean Six Sigma to specific customer-side business results of improved loyalty; increased revenue; effective customer-investment decision-making; and velocity in sales results
WORKSHOP LEADER: Nedra L. Pope is a Vice President at HUNTER BUSINESS GROUP.
